‘Tis the Season to Smile!

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a problem was stirring… except for that pain in your mouth! We love Christmas time—there’s something so cozy about a warm hearth with the snow drifting outside! But while the holidays are wonderful, they can be extremely hard on your teeth! With exposure to hard candies and the increase in sugary foods or the occasional glass of wine, your teeth need a little TLC to get you through the holiday season unscathed!

So what can you do to avoid a yuletide dental disaster? Check this list twice!

Sugar High—you don’t have to shun your sugary goodies, of course, but it helps if you can enjoy your cakes, cookies, and pies at mealtimes, rather than visiting the candy jar every hour or so! The added saliva production during meals helps to rinse away bacteria, sugar, and acid, giving your teeth a little help!

Bring Your Brush—Christmas Eve and Christmas Day can be hectic. Visiting friends and family, opening gifts…it means early mornings and late nights, and sometimes basic things (like brushing your teeth) can go forgotten! One way to avoid this is to grab some travel brushes and toothpaste to keep in your car, purse or pocket. That way, you never get caught someplace without your basic dental care products! You can even bring floss and mouth rinse if you really want to be ahead of the game!

Gum’s the Word—it pays to invest in a sugar-free gum of your choice to chew after meals! Chewing gum can increase saliva production, which as you may remember, helps to rinse away bacteria that can cause all sorts of problems—from breaking down enamel, to tooth decay, and even cavities.

Should you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming holidays, feel free to give us a call at 216-325-9755! And of course, we at Hudec wish you and your family nothing but the best this holiday season!
