In addition to heightening your risk of lung cancer and heart disease, tobacco products such as cigarettes and smokeless tobacco can also increase your chances of developing gingivitis, leukoplakia, and oral cancer. The first of these conditions, gingivitis is the earliest stage of gum disease and exhibits symptoms of bleeding and swollen gums. Leukoplakia shows symptoms of thick white patches that grow on the inner lip or inside the cheek.

As the medical expert in this video explains, one of the most serious conditions that tobacco use can lead to is oral cancer. If you use tobacco and notice it has become more difficult to chew or speak, then meet with your doctor for an oral cancer screening promptly.
