Children’s Dentistry
At Hudec Dental, your child’s dental health is our top priority, delivered with exceptional care and expertise
We understand the importance of a healthy smile, especially for children. Many on our dedicated team specialize in dentistry for children, ensuring your little ones receive gentle, compassionate care in a friendly environment designed to make dental visits enjoyable.
Pediatric Dental Services
From routine checkups and gentle cleanings to preventative treatments like fluoride applications and sealants, we focus on creating a positive dental experience for our young patients.
Our goal is to establish strong dental hygiene habits early and provide comprehensive care throughout adolescence.

Checkups
Dental care for children includes biannual checkups starting no later than 3 years old. At your pediatric dental appointment, we will inspect your child’s gums and teeth for potential concerns. Baby teeth fall out, so X-rays aren’t often taken at a young age. We also may do a gentle cleaning or polishing to remove any plaque buildup.
Cleanings
During a gentle cleaning to remove plaque buildup, the dentist may also show your child correct brushing and flossing techniques to build healthy oral hygiene habits in the future. The dentist may suggest that your child begin fluoride treatments. We may also recommend sealants to further protect young teeth from decay.
Fluoride treatments
These simple coatings are used to prevent cavities in baby teeth and permanent teeth. The process involves painting a varnish with high fluoride levels onto the tooth’s surface twice a year to prevent decay. It works by strengthening tooth enamel, making it more resistant to decay.
Sealants
Children with poor brushing habits may develop decay on hard-to-reach molars. Dental sealants offer a means of protecting molar and premolar chewing surfaces from decay. Recognized by the American Dental Association as a key means of cavity prevention, dental sealants are simply a thin plastic film that can be applied to teeth, creating an impenetrable physical barrier for small food particles and cavity-causing bacteria. Sealants can last up to 10 years.
Orthodontics
Hudec provides comprehensive orthodontic care for patients of all ages — care that’s about more than straightening teeth. Correcting dental alignment can contribute to better overall health, including reduced risk of jaw problems and headaches.
Services include traditional braces, clear aligners, and early orthodontic treatment for children, which can prevent more serious dental problems in the future.
Whether you need minor corrections or more complex adjustments, our goal is to enhance your oral health and boost your overall confidence.

Insurance and payment options
Many dental insurance policies cover orthodontic treatment, such as braces, because it is considered a medically necessary corrective dental procedure. However, there may be certain restrictions, such as age limitations, so it’s essential to understand your dental health insurance plan’s details.
Our office is committed to helping you maximize your insurance benefits. Insurance policies vary greatly in coverage, so we can initially only give good-faith estimates.

Frequently Asked Questions
How old should my child be before seeing a dentist?
There is no exact age when your child should have his or her first pediatric dental exam. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry says the ideal time is when your child’s first tooth appears, but no later than one year.
How can I prepare my child for his/her first visit?
Imagination works wonders, so consider playtime a chance to simulate a trip to the dentist. When the time comes, stay positive about the checkup. Studies show parents pass that positivity along to their children.
Are pediatric dentists different from regular dentists?
They can be. Pediatric dental practices are designed specifically with kids in mind, and a dentist who specializes in pediatrics knows about child development as well as the ins and outs of treating growing smiles.
What should I do if my child has a dental emergency?
First rule of thumb: Don’t panic. Emergency pediatric dental care can be scary. If you encounter an emergency, call our office right away, even after hours. If your child is experiencing intense bleeding, please go to the nearest emergency room for assistance. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry also offers a helpful information sheet on what to do in certain emergencies.
Do I need separate dental insurance for children?
More than likely, your child is covered by your dental plan but double-check to make sure. Also, review what services are available to them so you are not surprised if a procedure is not.
