Frequently Asked Questions

How early can you get braces?

We recommend examining patients as early as age 8 and in certain situations younger. It is rarely too early to examine a child. It gives us the option to begin intervention treatment or place the patient on observation and review their growth and development regularly.

How do you properly maintain your braces?

Excellent oral hygiene includes brushing and flossing techniques and routine visits with your family dentist. Also follow the guidelines given to you by your orthodontist regarding foods to eat and the care of the appliances.

When you get braces, how often do you have to visit the orthodontist?

Generally, every 4 to 8 weeks. Certain appliances require a different schedule. Your orthodontist will inform you if this is the case.

How long do most people typically wear braces?

Average treatment time is generally around 12 to 24 months for traditional braces, depending on the severity of needed dental work, followed by wearing a retainer for a specified time.

What are the benefits of braces?

Braces can improve your dental health and, in certain circumstances, improve your overall health. They also can improve your facial esthetics and self-esteem in certain situations. They are beneficial to the treatment of some speech difficulties, and braces can contribute to improving periodontal situations as well as aid in certain restorative treatment plans.
