Dental Services for Seniors
At Hudec Dental, our dentistry for seniors is a sensitive approach to the needs of our older patients, including how we examine your bite, joints, glands, soft tissues, gum tissues and teeth.
Benefits include enhanced quality of life, giving patients a self-esteem boost and the ability to enjoy a more varied diet. Beyond diet, restorative care, repair and prevention support overall health and help reduce the incidence of heart disease and diabetes.
Checkups
Regular dental checkups are essential for catching issues early, especially as we get older. Scheduling a regular checkup helps us monitor your oral health, detect potential problems like gum disease, and provide personalized care to keep your teeth in top shape. During this time, we can also set up a hygiene plan that will keep your smile healthy and youthful no matter your age.

Hudec’s Comprehensive Senior Dental Services
Checkups
At your checkup, we will screen for oral cancer, periodontal disease, and other potential problems. The dentist will also assess each tooth for problems like tooth decay or cracks. They will also inspect old dental work to determine if it needs replaced.
Dentures
If you are looking for a dentist who specializes in dentures, you’ve come to the right place. At Hudec Dental, we offer four kinds of affordable dentures:
• Conventional dentures: Removable dentures made after tooth extraction and healed gums.
• Immediate dentures: Removable dentures placed immediately after teeth are removed, allowing the wearer to have teeth during the healing process.
• Overdentures: Dentures that fit over a few remaining natural teeth or implants, providing more stability.
• Partial dentures: Removable dentures that replace some missing teeth, secured by clasps to remaining natural teeth.
We also have same-day in-house denture repair service for patients.
Dental implants
Our dentists can restore your smile with dental implants. Some people cannot adjust to wearing partials or conventional dentures and want a more stable solution. Implants are a perfect option for patients who are healthy, have adequate bone density and good oral hygiene. The average cost of dental implants depends on the extent of the procedures involved.
Crowns/bridges
We may recommend a crown to cover and protect a tooth when it has had a root canal, a large filling, or severe breakage. Sometimes a bridge is needed to fill the gap of a missing tooth (or teeth) and to prevent repositioning or shifting of remaining teeth. In some cases, your dentist may consider a dental bridge versus implants.
Oral cancer screening
People over 65 are often more susceptible to oral cancer. Screening for oral cancer can identify precancerous or cancerous lesions in their early stages, significantly improving the chances of successful treatment.
Restorative Dental Care for Seniors
As we age, common dental issues, such as tooth decay, tooth loss and gum disease, become more prominent. Restorative dental care for seniors can help address and repair those dental issues. Doing so helps seniors maintain oral function, such as comfortable chewing and smiling, and prevents more serious complications, like bacterial infections and further tooth loss.

Comfort and accessibility
We recognize for many seniors dental visits can be a nerve-wracking necessity. Dental anxiety is common, no matter your age, and often stems from a negative experience or general fear of dentistry.
However, at Hudec, we prioritize your comfort throughout your visit, ensuring a stress-free experience for all.
Insurance and payment options
Often it is difficult to understand what procedures are covered by insurance, how much the company will pay, deductible amounts, and so on. At Hudec Dental, we go the extra mile and contact the insurance company to verify your coverage before you even step foot in our offices.
In addition, when it comes to Medicare dental coverage for seniors, many older adults are surprised that Medicare does not cover dental exams, routine dental or oral health care, or dental appliances such as partial plates or full dentures. Nearly 65% of Medicare beneficiaries lack dental coverage. A supplemental dental policy is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What dental services are most important for me?
Regular teeth cleanings are the No. 1 reason to go to the dentist. As we age, gum disease and dry mouth are widespread among Americans 65 and older. Regular cleanings and exams are good for maintaining overall oral health and can help prevent several issues including cavities, gum disease, bad breath, stained teeth.
How often should I visit the dentist?
More than 1 in every 4 seniors have not visited their dentist in the last five years. The American Dental Association recommends getting your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year. Obviously, if concerns arise before your next scheduled appointment, you should see your dentist as soon as possible.
What special considerations does the dentist office make if I have dentures?
Not much really changes from a standard exam. Your dentist will examine your mouth and access soft tissue and bones, inspect denture stability and examine your bite. Your dentures will also receive professional cleaning.
Can you help me with dry mouth?
The causes of dry mouth, also known as xerostomia, are many. Often prescription medications can be to blame. The dentist may be able to prescribe a saliva substitute in addition to other possible solutions, such as chewing sugar-free gum.
I am nervous about seeing the dentist. What should I do?
Take a deep breath and talk to your dentist. An open discussion around the individual triggers can help your dentist work with you to tailor an anxiety management plan you both can be happy about.
